Diploma in Teaching Indian Sign Language (DTISL)
ISLRTC developed the syllabus of a new two-year programme, namely Diploma in Teaching Indian Sign Language (DTISL). RCI approved this new programme in 2018 and accorded approval of one batch to ISLRTC to offer the DTISL programme with one batch from the academic year 2019-21 and with two batches from 2021 onwards. The course is meant for training deaf individuals to teach ISL to interpreters and other stakeholders.
Objective: The Diploma in Teaching Indian Sign Language program aims to develop personnel in the field of Indian Sign Language development and teaching of ISL communication and ISL interpretation. The Diploma will enable the teachers to develop skills in teaching ISL as a language and teaching interpretation skills. The Deaf trainees also learn about Deaf culture and identity and are trained in different teaching methods and strategies. They also learn to use their ISL knowledge and teaching skills to develop literacy in English.
