- BACKGROUND
In 2018, to commemorate the twin occasions of International Day o f Sign Languages and International Week of Deaf People, ISLRTC initiated the conduct of an Indian Sign Language Competition with the purpose of showcasing the creativity, knowledge and skills of deaf children in telling stories, jokes and essays in ISL. The Competition has witnessed enthusiastic participation from deaf children and schools.
The winners of the ISL Competition have been felicitated by the Hon’ble Minister SJ&E in a programme on Sign Language Day on 23rd September every year.
The Competition has had a positive impact on deaf children, their parents and teachers, by recognizing and validating their ISL skills and thus, showing them the value of sign language and instilling a feeling of pride in them.
